Or: a happy Saint Patrick’s Day to all of you!
The celebrations accompanying this Irish holiday spread all over the world, and have been adopted — or should I say appropriated? — by many not in any way linked to the Emerald Isle. In Brussels it’s no different, and you’ll see Manneken Pis in an Aran jumper, city hall illuminated in green, and loads of — intoxicated — people wearing either a leprechaun hat, or one shaped like pint of Guinness. Of course Guinness is heavily promoting theses celebrations, as if the doubling of consumption of their beers isn’t enough already…
But you can celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day in a more classy way, avoiding the aforementioned stout completely, and visit a couple of bars actually serving Irish craft beer, for the occasion. Eight Degrees Brewing in particular seems to be well represented.
- For Moeder Lambic it’s not the first time they’re serving beers from Eight Degrees. They even had an Irish Beer Weekend in June! At Moeder Lambic Original they will be serving the pale ale Howling Gale Ale today. In Moeder Lambic Fontainas it’s the red ale Amber Ella.
- At Dynamo the beers from across the Channel are usually English, but today you can try the Irish smoked brown ale Bandit.
- The Hoppy Loft will have three Eight Degrees beers on tonight: the hoppy sour Wayfarer, Hurricane IPA, and Citra Single Hop IPA.
- The Black Sheep will at least be serving Rule of Three (on bottle), a collaboration between the Belgian brewery Siphon and the Irish brewery Kinnegar, and there’s a keg of Irish ale of waiting to be connected as well.
So, don some stylish green clothes — and maybe a bit of saffron 😉 — and have a tasteful and tasty Saint Patrick’s Day!
* It is the last day of Irish Language Week as well, today, so it seems fit to convey our wishes in Gaeilge.
