Central Park

Schaerbeek is huge, and to get from 1030 Café to the Barboteur is quite a walk. Luckily, about halfway, you’ll find Central Park, right on the edge of the Josaphat Park it is obviously referring to. During your pit-stop there, you’ll be able to choose from ten beers on draught, among which a few familiar locals — like ‘super chilled’ Delta and Zinnebir — a classic like Saison Dupont, but a changing guest beer as as well.

Last month’s guest beer on draught at Central Park was De Ranke‘s Guldenberg. On the slightly chaotic bottle list — at least it wasn’t sorted by colour this time — there are some more local beers by De la Senne, Brussels Beer Project, and Cantillon, and a couple of trappist beers, most notably including a couple of Westvleterens.

There’s quite a lot on the food menu — steak-frites, burgers, omelettes, pastas and more — but we only tried the cheese, this time. The burgers we saw passing by looked quite okay though! Apparently it’s customary here to put a little portion of crisps on each table, which is a nice touch.

Board game and comics lovers might be very tempted to stay a bit longer than just for a pit-stop, since they stock quite a collection of both! Most of the comics and games seem to be in French, but if you master the language sufficiently, you could easily spend a couple of hours here playing or reading. There are new additions each month, so if you can’t find anything to your liking, don’t hesitate to make a suggestion.
