Silex Bar

For centre dwellers like us, it was quite a trek to get to Silex Bar… It was totally worth it though, and the inhabitants of the until recently beer bar deprived south-east of the Brussels capital region, can finally take delight in having a bar with an excellent and varied beer selection in their area. And, with a bit of luck, they’ll still be able to enjoy some glasses on the off-street terrace!

Something that will probably immediately stand out when glancing the menu at Silex Bar, is the prominence of beers by DrinkDrink! That is no coincidence: the bicycle-themed Anderlecht brewery actually has a stake in the bar. So apart from the three DrinkDrink! beers on draught, you’ll find every other beer they brew in the fridges. On the other pumps we found beers by L’Ermitage, La Source, Cantillon, Babeleir (Namur), and even Piggy (France).

The aforementioned fridges are filled with an equally varied selection of beers from nearby and further away. We enjoyed a can of Mhór by the excellent English brewery Northern Monk, for instance.

Don’t be afraid to bring your wine drinking friends though, Silex Bar stocks a nice selection of wines as well!

Games

While you can immediately spot a table football table when you enter the bars, in the back room there’s another surprise waiting for playful people: shelves and shelves full of board games, and a larger table to play them on. And judging by their social media posts, they regularly add new games to the collection! As we’ve mentioned before: there’s definitely an overlap in the craft beer lovers and tabletop gamers Venn diagram!

Arrosticini

We didn’t get around to trying the food, but the arrosticini—Italian meat skewers—are certainly a unique addition to a bar food menu, we’ll have to come back for. Cheese, charcuterie, artisanal dry sausages, and olives, and mozzarella are available as well to snack on, and if you’re slightly more hungry, lasagne, croques, and hot dogs will probably do the trick. On Saturday and Sunday they even serve brunch, what we can imagine will only be the start of a whole day at Silex Bar for some…
