Beergium

Uccle has not really been craft beer central so far, or actually central anything… The opening of Beergium however, has finally made this part of Brussels a more attractive beer destination, and on top of that, the perfect stop in between lambic brewer and gueuze blender 3 Fonteinen, and the centre of Brussels. Don’t worry if you never make it out of Uccle though: in addition to the numerous foreign beers on offer, there are plenty of 3F bottles in Beergium‘s fridges as well!

Well-stocked fridges

We already visited Beergium on the day of the ‘soft opening’, and we were very impressed by the beers on offer. We didn’t expect to return very often, since it is a bit hard to reach by STIB only, but we actually did feel the need to return a couple of times already (by TEC, De Lijn, and by SNCB…) simply because they organise event after event, focussing on beers from brewers that are a bit harder to find around here, and well worth the trek.

The menu heavily features beers from the United States—currently Hoof Hearted, Evil Twin, The Bruery, FiftyFifty, Prairie Artisan Ales, and many other American breweries fill up almost half the menu—but Sweden is also wel represented with beers from Brekeriet, Fermenterarna, Stigbergets, and Ten Hands.

Digital draught boards

All draught beers are available in three different sizes, starting at 15 cl, and clearly displayed on the digital draught boards, so even the less experienced visitors are enticed to order the smallest size to be able to try more different beers. Of course a lot of craft beer bars offer the option of ordering a tasting size glass, but only a few make it this visible.

As one has come to expect from beer bars , the cheese and charcuterie boards are the snack of choice here. In a couple of months the food menu of Beergium will probably expand, and in the meantime, you can expect some guest caterers during events as well. If you need more sustenance when that’s not the case, there is a real frietkot near the train station, which you’ll probably pass on your way here anyway, and you’re welcome to take your mitraillette inside.

So even though Beergium might be a bit out of your way, you shouldn’t hesitate to make the journey. Keep an eye out for events—like this weekend’s Jester King Tap Takeover—but even in between events, the tap and bottle list will be interesting enough to keep you occupied for quite a while.
