Malting Pot

The Malting Pot has been around for quite a while, and as far as we know, it was the first beer shop in Brussels specialised in foreign beers. After the opening of other shops more conveniently located for us, we neglected Malting Pot a bit, quite unrightfully so! Today still, the small corner shop offers a great selection of foreign beers, without forgetting Belgian breweries like De Ranke and De Dochter van de Korenaar.

A couple of years ago — long before Albert Heijn and Carrefour started selling Punk IPAMalting Pot was just about the only place where we could get BrewDog beers. At the time, we didn’t really look at the other beers on offer, but considering what is available now, we really should have! Now BrewDog is easily found elsewhere, it seems to have made way for other breweries. We can find rather well known foreign breweries like Brew By Numbers, The KernelDe Molen and Flying Dog of course, but also, for instance, the Austrian Bevog, or another Scottish brewery, Harviestoun. The nice thing about small beer shops is that the available beer is just the owner’s personal choice, which makes each of those shops unique!

Like in most bottle shops in Belgium, there is not really a drinking area — unless you consider the benches on the little square in front of Malting Pot as such — but there is a fridge full of pale ales, IPA’s and sour beers to enjoy straight away if you’re so inclined. You might want to bring your own glass then though, or buy one of the brewery branded glasses available in the shop.

If you intend to visit the Malting Pot this summer, keep in mind the shop will be closed from July 26 until August 3, and stock up now!
