After a short dip, the temperature is in the high twenties again, so it’s a perfect opportunity to check out another al fresco drinking establishment. Being centre based, we had to travel quite a distance for our previous visits to park buvettes. Luckily for us, the Guinguette Royale is in the Parc de Bruxelles or Warandepark, the largest public park in the centre of Brussels. Our visit to the buvette in the Bois de la Cambre in mind, we didn’t expect our beers to be served in glass, so we grabbed our reusable cups, and headed to the Parc de Bruxelles for a lunch in the cool shade.
The food and drinks offer at the Guinguette Royale is very similar to the one at Woodpecker, in the Bois de la Cambre. That is not really surprising, considering the same group of businesses is operating both of these park buvettes: Laurent Gerbaud Chocolatier, Brasserie de la Senne, TIGRE Flagey, and Peck BXL.
There are three beer taps at the Guinguette Royale, one more than at Woodpecker. This means that next to Zinnebir and Jambe-de-Bois, you can get yourself a cup — 25 cl or 50 cl — of Taras Boulba as well.
As expected, they had only (biodegradable) plastic cups to serve the beer and other drinks in, but they would gladly fill the stainless steel cups we brought, and they were even kind enough to give them a rinse afterwards.
The main food item is again a hot wrap, exactly the same as at Woodpecker, although only two different ones were listed during our visit. One of the wraps is even called Woodpecker, in case you missed the link! After that, there are plenty of different ice-creams and other dessert options available.
The Guinguette Royale is completely surrounded by trees, so there’s absolutely no need for further sunshades, all benches and tables are already in the shade. Bring on the summer!
