The sando is quickly gaining popularity in Brussels. One of the first places where we saw this Japanese type of sandwich was at Chou Sando, in the centre of Brussels. The prominently displayed beers we saw there, immediately made this Japanese sandwich shop an obvious candidate for our blog!

The shelves at Chou Sando are neatly filled with bottles and cans of beers. A few are brewed by iKi Beer, a Dutch brewery using Japanese green tea. The Uijin beers by the Japanese Rio Brewing & Co. are actually brewed in Belgium, at Jandrain-Jandrenouille. Probably already a bit more familiar are the OWA and the Fugu beers. That’s quite an impressive line-up for a sandwich restaurant! Of course those beers are all available refrigerated as well to enjoy with your meal.

But Chou Sando is first and foremost a sandwich place, and as they usually come, it’s mostly a take-out and delivery place. There are a few tables to eat in though, but they quickly fill up. On the menu the sandos take a place of pride, of course: the classic chicken filled sando torikatsu, the sando menchi katsu with beef, a shrimp sando ebi fry, and a veggie one as well. Next to that, there are also different variations of the Japanese rice bowl dish donburi on the menu, chicken and vegetable gyozas, and other small dishes.

You can have their sandos and beer delivered at home as well, but not all the craft beers are available online. You’ll have to visit one of the shops—there’s one in Watermael-Boitsfort as well—to enjoy those!
