Au Marché National

We don’t go to the theatre often, and even this time, it was only to grab a bite in its restaurant, Au Marché National. Well, we were lured there by the prospect of an exclusive beer—No Science‘s TNT, brewed especially for the Théâtre National. Unfortunately, it’s only available—on draught—in the bar of the theatre, right next to the restaurant, which is apparently closed during lunchtime. Luckily for us, there are some nice bottled beers available in the restaurant.

Most of the beers on the menu of Au Marché National are from local brewery De la Senne, in addition to the benchmark Saison from Dupont. The TNT we came for, was sadly missing from the menu, but we hope it will soon be available in bottle as well, so lunch guests won’t be deprived from this exclusivity.

On the food menu there were only five main dishes—quiche, lasagne, mash & sausage, a wok dish, and a salad—a soup, and a dessert. The soup is available as a main dish as well. We had the (veggie) lasagne and the quiche, and were quite happy with both. The menu on the blackboard in front of the theatre is complete, by the way, so you can easily check if there’s anything to your liking before you head to the first floor.

On our way in and out, we passed the closed bar, and apart from TNT, there was another No Science beer on draught—Fade to Grey—the brewery from Liege De Marsinne’s Leopold 7, and Vander Ghinste‘s pilsner Bockor. The bottle list was basically the same as in the restaurant.

When there are shows on, both the bar and the restaurant are open in the evening. We’ll have to come back one of those nights to try TNT then!
