L’Amère à Boire

IMG_7249When a tasting involving one of the newest Brussels breweries popped up on our Facebook feed, we couldn’t resist and headed to l’Amère à Boire, where the event was about to take place. We had visited this bar in the Flagey area a couple of times before, so we already knew the beer list would certainly warrant an appearance on this blog.

The featured brewery — Nanobrasserie L’Ermitage, we’ll be sure to pay them a visit soon — wasn’t just available for the people participating in the tasting, but two of their beers were already on draught for everybody’s pleasure! It wasn’t the first time l’Amère à Boire organises a tasting event like that: previously Brasserie des 3 Fourquets and Jandrain-Jandrenouille appeared in their Dégustations de l’Amère a Boire series, and Brasserie de la Senne should be featuring in one of the next tastings.

IMG_5123But even without a special tasting going on, the beer list is impressive: chalk boards filled with beer names are all over the place, and handwritten pump clips indicate that the ten draught beers change often. Except for maybe the Bofferding pils, Luxemburg’s national beer that seems to take over more and more bars in Brussels…

The only hot snack available at l’Amère à Boire are toasties — or croque monsieur, toasted cheese sandwiches, grilled cheese or whatever you call them — but unfortunately they ran out of them already by the time we went hungry. If that happens to you as well, you’ll have the regular bar offering of portions of cheese, dry sausage or boudin to choose from.

A beer lovers bar like this should really invest in making some glasses of their own at some point: all beers were served to us in a differently branded glass, not corresponding with the content.

The decoration is quaint, but creating a cosy atmosphere, and using kegs and beer crates as seats is just perfect to express their love for beer. Sitting on a low beer crate for a whole two hour tasting might not be comfortable for everyone though, even though it was totally worth it this time!
